    NIAB, a crop science organisation with a research facility at their Park Farm location in Impington, are looking for this new role.

    Laboratory Assistant (Part-time, 20 hours per week) that will be based in laboratories at their Park Farm and HQ sites in Cambridge to provide support for activities in the Pathology department of the Cambridge Crop Research business unit, including laboratories, controlled environment complex, glasshouse and field. Duties will include autoclaving and media preparation, washing up and maintenance of equipment and of laboratory cleanliness, glassware etc, preparation of plant material for testing and monitoring of laboratory consumables.  Some seasonal field work will be required.

    Laboratory Manager for Grain Quality to manage the day-to-day delivery of grain end-use quality testing using biochemical methods. The main duties for this role includes hands on testing of samples, collating and validating data and reporting results to customers.     Trainee Technical Specialist to assist with delivery of the DUS and Seed Certification programs. Work is focused on the assessment and description of plant varieties and involves sample handling, trial set-up and drilling, recording of plant characteristics and crop inspections. The role involves extensive field work, along with associated office, laboratory and glasshouse duties. Outside work takes place in all seasons and some tasks are physically demanding.   • Laboratory Manager, Analytical Services Technician – NIAB

    Laboratory Manager for Pathogen Diagnostics to manage the Pathogen Diagnostics Laboratory which includes some chromatography and varietal identification of agricultural species and ideally have experience in plant pathology or mycology, molecular biology, and chromatography. Main duties include hands on testing of samples, collating and validating data and reporting results to customers. The Quality Testing lab is principally involved in the production of grain and forage quality data for independent customers, national plant trials and for projects within NIAB. Activities include sample receipt and registration; sample preparation; sample analysis using a wide range of high-throughput biochemical analysis techniques, including NIRT/NIRS and low-field NMR spectroscopy, segmented flow enzyme analysis, Hagberg Falling Number analysis and various manual grain quality assessments.
