  • Inclusive and ‘inspiring’ music sessions start at Salvation Army

    The Salvation Army is set to launch a music education programme for people with learning disabilities this week.

    The Music Man sessions, which start on Friday 28 February, will teach students to sing, play instruments and perform, with the aim of “building confidence, inspiring creativity, and bringing people together.”

    The Histon sessions are part of a national project in Salvation Army churches across the UK, founded by disability rights campaigner and composer, David Stanley. To date, the programme has featured special events, workshops and even a performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

    Major Georgina Symons, one of the leaders of The Salvation Army in Histon said: “For almost 10 years now I have been part of The Salvation Army’s enabled community and have grown to love being part of this beautiful community of people.

    “I have received so much more in blessings than I could ever give. Music is a huge part of my life, and being able to share in music making in this way brings a huge smile to my face and my heart.”

    Music Man sessions take place from 10.30am-12pm on Fridays at The Salvation Army, Impington Lane, Histon. The charge is £5 per session, with no charge for carers. For information or to book, call 07792 324647 or email devonhorn@icloud.com

  • Accorde Choir

    Accorde Choir rehearses every Thursday from 7.30 – 9.30pm at the Saint Andrew’s Centre.

    Accorde is a Cambridge-based chamber choir which sings a wide range of music, both a capella and accompanied. We present 6-8 concerts per year in small to medium sized venues, mainly to raise funds for good causes.

  • Beats and Bars Workshop

    Cambridgeshire Music is running a Beats and Bars Workshop with Xidus Pain on Tuesday 4th April from 10am – 4pm at its headquarters in New School Road.

    School students in Years 7-11 are invited to explore the complexities of Rap music, the lyric writing process, and how to develop Rap performance.

  • Impington Music Society – Piano Concert

    Impington Music Society is holding a concert on Friday 10th February from 7.30pm in the Brackenbury Room at Impington Village College.

    We have a very special group of talented local young pianists – all are the pupils of the highly respected piano teacher, Thanea Hodges. We can promise you an absolutely delightful evening. One aim of our Society is to give young musicians the opportunity to play to a welcoming audience in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere, and to have the experience of playing our lovely grand piano.

  • Performing Arts Holiday Workshops

    Cambridgeshire Music is running half term holiday workshops from 14th -16th February at its county hub in New School Road.

    Exploring the writings of William Shakespeare the workshops will be looking at the history of the work, the performance techniques and music and putting on our own versions. All students will earn an Arts Award Discover Certificate.

    Lead Teacher of Music, Lead Practitioner Humanities, Lead Teacher of Business and Economics – IVC

    IVC who are part of the Eastern Learning Alliance are looking to recruit for these senior roles and part time candidates are very welcome, and well supported, as they are one of eight schools in the UK to be a Flexible Working Ambassador School.

    Lead Teacher of Music (Key Stage 3-5) Music is a popular and successful option choice at both KS4 and KS5 as part of their large Performance School, and students of all abilities are actively encouraged to participate in a very wide range of extra-curricular activities. These include regular clubs, as well as several informal concerts and music shares each year. They also run a biannual whole-College musical with a full orchestra, with recent shows including Oliver!, Annie, Cabaret and We Will Rock You. Aumni have gone on to great success in the West End, and one recent alumna was even crowned BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2022!     Lead Practitioner Humanities to play a crucial role in the development of teaching and learning across the College, in addition to the oversight of curriculum, professional development and standards within the faculty. As Lead Practitioner you will be expected to deliver both faculty-based and whole-College CPD, and to join our Leadership Forum which drives the latest developments in teaching and learning within the College. The Humanities faculty is a large and highly successful faculty, comprising History, Geography, RE and Philosophy, Psychology, Business Studies and Economics. Outcomes across all subjects are very strong, with high levels of uptake at GCSE and IB level, and many students progressing onto Humanities subjects at university. There is a very strong culture of collaboration across the Humanities subjects, and the opportunity to contribute to a range of extra-curricular activities and trips. The role would be ideal for a candidate who is an existing Head of Department or Faculty, who is looking to make the next step prior to a senior leadership role. Apply By January 30, 2023

    Lead Teacher of Business and Economics, economics is already a well-established course in the international sixth form, with large numbers of students achieving grades that are well in excess of the world averages. It is also a popular choice for university applications and extended essays within the IB Diploma. They also offer Business Management as part of the IB Diploma and Careers Programmes, which is a very popular and successful subject. Business Studies has recently been reintroduced into the curriculum at KS4, and has already proved extremely popular, with strong outcomes expected for our first cohort.

    Cambridgeshire Music is holding a session on Wednesday 14th December from 6-7.30pm at its Histon Centre in New School Road.

    Have you ever wondered what it’s like to play in an orchestra? Come and Play! For intermediate (Grades 3-5) instrumentalists interested in joining the ensembles at our Cambridge Music Centre.

  • Stage & Screen presents Jack and the Beanstalk

    Cambridgeshire Music are holding a pantomime themed workshop on 27th and 28th October from 10am to 3pm at their centre in New School Road.

    Come and join a two day Pantomime themed workshop, exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk through singing, music and dance and earn at Arts Award Discover Certificate.

    Open to students in Years 5 to 7.

    Cambridgeshire Music is launching its new centre on 23rd and 24th September in New School Road, Histon.

    With workshops aimed for children, young people and families to try, play and enjoy our new musical space. Events from Live Open Mic Night to SEN, Family Music workshops to a folk party on the Saturday evening.

    All events and workshops are free.
