We have a very special group of talented local young pianists – all are the pupils of the highly respected piano teacher, Thanea Hodges. We can promise you an absolutely delightful evening. • Helpers needed for the Impington Music Society

The Impington Music Society (IMS) runs small concerts and recitals featuring a range of professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians, and offers performance opportunities for local musicians embarking on their professional career.  They arrange about 8 concerts a year, on Friday evenings at Impington Village College (IVC), and cover a wide range of music.

They are looking for more helpers in two areas:

    • Occasional practical help on concert evenings.
This can be anything from helping to set out the chairs before the concert, putting up signs, handing out programmes, showing people where they can get refreshments in the interval, and making sure that we leave the place tidy at the end – depending on your time availability and preference.   There is no need to volunteer for every concert; even if you are only available for one or two events, that will be a great help for our regular team!
    • Running the IMS.
Behind the scenes, our informal team of volunteers looks after the organisation of the IMS, and they would like some reinforcement to help them plan future concerts, set up ticketing and marketing or look after our very basic website and social media presence. It is quite a wide range of jobs which we share between us depending on people’s interests and available time.

If you are interested in either (or both!) ways of helping to encourage live music in the village, get in touch by email to impingtonmusicsoc@gmail.com or simply come to one of our next concerts in the Brackenbury Room, Impington Village College (Friday 10 February 2023 or Friday 17 March, both at 7.30pm) and talk to us to find out more.   We look forward to meeting you – and will waive the concert entrance fee if you are interested in volunteering!

(To reach the Brackenbury Room from the IVC main entrance, turn left down the long, curved corridor to the end.)

  • Palm Tree-O Concert

Impington Music Society is holding a concert on Friday 11th November from 7.30pm at Impington Village College.

The Palm Tree-O will take us on a nostalgic trip back to the elegant days of afternoon tea accompanied by the salon music of the early part of the 20th century. For many years, the trio (Andrew Taylor, piano; Helen Godfrey, cello; Bruce Godfrey, violin) played ‘mood’ music in the Long Gallery at Wimpole Hall. They all have very impressive musical achievements as well as day jobs in teaching, mathematics and science. A lovely, relaxing evening in the style of days-gone-by in the Brackenbury Room.

  • Impington Music Society Recital

Impington Music Society’s new season starts on Friday 16th September at 7.30pm at Impington Village College.

Recital by Emma Robinson, a local young lady and former IVC student. She began studying violin aged 9 with local teacher Cath Davis, and now in her 3rd year at the Royal Northern College of Music she has gained a wide and impressive experience in performance.

You can get tickets here (as well as on the door as usual): https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/impington-music-society
