Is Obesity A Choice? – HI Diabetes Group Talk

Dr Giles Yeo, Principle Research Associate at the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit Cambridge, President of British Dietetic Association, author of ‘Gene Eating’, TV and radio presenter will talk on “Is obesity a choice?” at 7pm Thursday 13 May on Zoom.

Being overweight is often stigmatised as being due to poor diet and a lazy lifestyle. Yet our genes determine a large part of our make up, including body shape. Some of us can’t seem to lose weight no matter what we eat, while others can. Why?

Type 2 Diabetes in mainly coupled to excess weight in the wrong place. Giles’ talk will explore our shape, ability to manage or loose weight and why we are genetically programmed to follow the “see food” diet (if I see food I eat it!).

Giles is both an expert and very entertaining speaker and has appeared on the BBC’s ‘Horizon’ and ‘Trust me I’m a doctor’ series.
