    Histon and Impington Archaeology Group is holding a talk on Monday 13th March from 7.30pm at Histon Methodist Church.

    The talk is entitled “Settlement and Sanctuary in the Hinterland of Roman Cambridge” by Iain Leslie, Albion Archaeology. It will reveal the results from the archaeological excavations at the Darwin Green Phase One development between Huntingdon Road and Histon Road.

    HIAG and Village Society Joint Talk

    A joint talk will be held by Histon and Impington Village Society and Histon and Impington Archaeology Group (HIAG) on Monday 27th February at 7.30 p.m. at Histon Methodist Church and via Zoom. 

    We are delighted to invite Alison Dickens of Granta Heritage who will give a talk entitled ‘Beneath the Choir Stalls of King’s College, Cambridge’. Alison will talk about the amazing finds discovered during a programme of treatment of the timber of the choir stalls in 2001 when over fifty sacks of debris and dust were removed. After careful hand sieving 544 items were recovered. Alison, an archaeologist with over 30 years’ experience, examines the significance of these objects and the light they shine on people who have used the chapel.

    Wimpole and its Archaeology

    The next Histon and Impington Archaeology Group talk is on Monday 16th January at 7.30 p.m. at Histon Methodist Church and via Zoom. 

    Angus Wainwright, Archaeologist for the National Trust in the East of England will be talking about Wimpole and its archaeology. Please register to attend in person or to receive the Zoom link via our Eventbrite page. Tickets are free to members of HIAG and £3 for non-members. It is possible to turn up on the night without booking, provided spaces are available.

  • HIAG Talk – Late Bronze Age Pottery

    Histon and Impington Archaeology Group have a talk “Make, use, break, repeat: Late Bronze Age pottery from Must Farm, Peterborough” on Monday 12th December from 7.30pm at Histon Methodist Church (or on Zoom).

    The talk by Dr Matt Brudenell, Director of the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, will examine the character, content, and context of use of the pottery from Must Farm, shedding new light on the way people made, utilised and deposited pottery in everyday routines of Late Bronze Age life.

  • HIAG Talk: Jewellery and Dress in the Second Viking Age

    Histon and Impington Archaeology Group have a talk on Thursday 10th November at 7.30pm at Histon Methodist Church.

    N.B. this month’s talk is on Thursday rather than the usual Monday.

    Diane Milan, Lecturer with the University of the Third Age, will lead the talk which will discuss how metal detecting has made a huge difference to Viking studies in our region.

    The talk is entitled “Archaeological Excavations in the grounds of Impington Village College 2019-21”.

  • Rethinking the Roman to Early Medieval Transition at Girton’s Cemetery

    Histon and Impington Archaeology Group is holding a talk on Monday 10th October from 7.30pm at Histon Methodist Church.

    The talk is by Emma Brownlee from Girton College. When the current buildings of Girton College were constructed in the late 19th century, the builders made an unexpected discovery; a substantial Roman and early medieval cemetery, containing 75 inhumation graves and at least 125 cremations.

  • HIAG Test Pit Project

    Histon and Impington Archaeology Group are holding an archaeological dig on 16th and 17th July in Histon.

    This event will take place at Strictly Daylilies on Primes Corner, Cottenham Road, Histon.
