‘Spitfire Excavation in the Great Fen’ – HIAG talk
James Fairbairn, Project Officer at Oxford Archaeology East (OAE) will give a talk about the story of Spitfire ‘Kerala’ Mk la X4593 which crashed on the 22nd of November 1940 on a routine training flight with the Pilot Officer Harold Penketh being killed.
During October 2015 OAE, local community volunteers, and members of Operation Nightingale excavated the remains of the Spitfire near Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire. This talk will tell Pilot Officer Penketh’s story and that of his Spitfire – it is in his memory.
It will be held on Monday 5th July at 7.30pm by Zoom.
There is no charge for this Zoom talk but as it takes place during Histon & Impington Feast Week donations are invited to Feast Week charities. See here to make a donation – and if you are not a member of HIAG, please also use HIAG Contact Us page to request the link for this free talk. The Zoom link will be emailed about 3 days in advance of the talk (HIAG members will receive it automatically).
