Strawberry 12 Cycle Ride

Strawberry 12 Cycle Ride

Important Event Information
The ride route this year is much different from previous family rides with it being a circuit including some on-road sections. Consequently, families with young children must decide if this event is suitable for them.

The Route
The 12 mile route is one of discovery around Cambridge with some challenges and adventure that we hope will be rewarding for children and adults alike. There are plenty of places to stop along the route to rest and relax. Signing up for this event could result in good feelings of family satisfaction and well-being!

Starting
from Histon & Impington Recreation Ground the route heads out of
the village to Girton, on to Eddington, past the University Library to
cross The Backs and the River Cam into Cambridge. Riders then pass the
Senate House to Market Square and through the City Centre to Jesus Green
following the River Cam to Chesterton. The route proceeds to join the
Guided Busway support track at Cambridge North Station and follows that
track back to Impington with the ride finishing at the start where
refreshments will be available to 3pm.

Advert

Note: at the time of launching this event, the Guided Busway
will be closed at the Orchard Park A14 bridge until Saturday 31st
August. The Guided Busway Authority and Highways England have assured
the organisers that the Busway will reopen on Sunday 1st September. If
there is a delay to the track reopening, the last part of the route will
be amended to follow part of current cycling diversion, i.e. after
crossing Milton Rd on the support track, continue to the point of
closure and turn left onto the shared path around Orchard Park to the
B1049, returning to the Recreation Ground via the old Cambridge Road.

Safety Information
This year’s route mainly uses shared cycle paths but it does include riding on some minor roads. There are also a number of road crossings, some of which have designated crossing points while others do not. There will be no marshals on the route. Parents and guardians will be fully responsible for the safety of children under their care.

The organisers have decided that independent cyclists taking part
must be aged 7 or over at the time of the event on Sunday 1st September.
This means that children aged under 7 will not be able to cycle
separately in the event.

The route is suitable for cargo bikes and we hope that the increased
popularity of these bikes will encourage family participation.

On the Day
Each family or group will be provided with a route map card and detailed instructions to follow – there will be no signage on the route, increasing the challenge to follow the directions provided.

In addition there will be a treasure trove quiz for which prizes will
be awarded. All riders aged 12 and under receive a medal and
certificate.

All families and groups will be requested to complete an event entry
form and declaration – this can be completed before the event and
downloaded here: Strawberry 12 Entry Form .

Registration on the day at Histon & Impington Recreation Ground from 9.45am to 10.30am. Event closes at 3.00pm.
